POST 181

Next District Meeting will be held in Vadialia at Post 97 on Saturday August 9th!!!!!

BIG EVENT PLANNED -------PIERCE COUNTY BARBEQUE CHAMPION COMPETITION June 14th

This year in conjunction of Flag Day, we will conduct our flag disposal ceremonies at noon and announce the Champion and Runner Up for the Pierce County Barbeque Championship.  From 10 till noon, the public is invited to sample the entered sauces.  A sampler plate will cost $3.00.  At noon the Champion will be announced based on popular votes received.  After the Flag Disposal Ceremony, full serve Dinner Plates will be available for $7.00.  The winner's sauce will be featured, but other entrants will also be available.

Sauce entrants enter 2 quarts per entry and pay $5.00.  This covers the costs of the pork we will cook Friday.  The sale of plates will, hopefully, assist the Post in its coming year.  Local churches, Girl Scout troops and other civic groups such as Lions and Rotary and Exchange Club have been made aware of this event.  We need MEMBERS of Post 181 to support the effort required to pull this off.  Call 449-3307 to offer your help or to reserve a dinner plate.  If we can sell 250 plates, plus sampler plates, we'll do well.

Reminder:  Those receiving the newsletter by e-mail who are receiving this message to charlie Peacock, our site master, are again reminded to attend the Meeting

We learned from the new District commander and out-going Adjutant Charlie Knox that we elect only a Post commander, Sr. vice and Jr Vice Commanders.  The Commander then chooses members to serve in the other Post positions...to assist who ever is elected as Commander, the Nomination committee will contact all serving position members to see if selected they would serve again...these positions would be Historian, Chaplain, Judge Advocate, Finance Officer, Service Officer, Sgt At Arms and Adjutant.  We also learned that unless the Post by-laws prohibit it, a person can be both a Jr vice commander and fill one of these positions.  We do not need, in my opinion, so many different people serving that we have, as we have had, problems making a quorem to conduct business at our scheduled meetings.  Our official quorem has been said to be as low as 5 or as high as 8....again, it should be set by the Post By Laws.  If they are vague or the number is too high, we need to vote to amend the By-Laws.

Finally, we will attempt to ge a Board of directors for Pierce County Legionnaires, Inc and new officers at our May meeting.  If their By-Laws need rewriting, we need to task this as well.  Once all in order, we can then pursue getting the Legionnaire, Inc. an IRS-recognized status as a 501(c) corporation so we no longer pay federal corporate income taxes as we have been for years.  Legionnaires, Inc. is a recognized GEORGIA non-profit corp., but no one followed up with the federal government and got the IRS recognition.  We can do this before 2008 ends.
